Leader, Product Engineering

PURPOSE and SCOPE 

Reporting to the Product Engineering Manager, the Product Engineering Leader (PEL) ensures team members have clear priorities, are working to meet all deliverables, and have all the necessary tools to achieve the deliverables. The PEL retains design engineering responsibility as a Design Engineer/Technologist as assigned by his/her manager.

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES

The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities for this position:

• Assist with the development of project management plans (PMP) (timelines, budgets, deliverables) that meet requirements of NPD plans.
• Provide guidance, support and leadership to your teams to ensure all PMP elements are met.
• Mentor team members as needed, and implement development plans for team members with the involvement of the Product Engineering Manager.
• Perform Engineering activities consistent with the expectations of the Design Engineers/Technologists (refer to job description for that position).
• Responsibility for release of documentation (drawings, ECNs, Schematics, etc).
• Support Current Products Engineering activity as needed.
• Support SR & ED activities for the Product Engineering Team while working with Accounting.
• Participate as part of the Engineering Management Team in leading change within Engineering.
• Perform periodic performance reviews of direct reports.
• Participate with the Product Engineering Manager and Director in the management of team composition.
• Support and participate in the CI process, always striving to continuously improve our processes.
• Able to travel domestically and internationally for 1-2 weeks at a time, approximately 4-6 times per year.
• Possess a valid class 5 driver’s license.
• Other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Education and Experience

• Graduate of an accredited Engineering or Technology program.
• Eligibility for APEGM or CTTAM registration.
• Minimum of five years of design experience.

Skills and Knowledge

• Extensive experience in machine design, with a strong background some combination of mechanical/hydraulic/electrical systems design.
• Farm background is an asset.
