Prototype Engineer Intern
Job Summary
The Prototype Engineer Intern provides an opportunity to gain practical, hands-on experience building MacDon prototypes and prototype components. These individuals are provided with a unique experience in which their problem-solving abilities are tested while they develop their hands-on experience working with Design Engineers building prototype machinery and obtaining exposure to mechanical, electrical and hydraulic systems.
Responsibilities
- Set up and operate a wide variety of machine tools to produce prototypes, experimental parts and equipment
- May perform any of the following: assembly, welding, and machine/fabrication operations from engineering drawings and instructions
- Work with the members of the Engineering Shop, Test Engineering and Design Engineering as needed in building and reworking prototypes
- Document issues and report on implementation of designs and make suggestions for modifications or improvements
- Learn to read and interpret part, weldment, and assembly drawings, as well as electronic/hydraulic schematics
- Repair and maintain shop machinery
- Assist in part inventory and part workflow coordination
- Keep work area safe and clean and inform supervisor of any unsafe conditions
- Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Education
Currently pursuing a secondary degree (Associates, Bachelors, Masters, etc.) in a related field of study.
Skills & Experience
- Good interpersonal relations
- Strong mechanical abilities - experience with machinery repairs
- Proficient in the use of hand and power tools
- Ability to work in both team situations and independently
- Possess a strong passion for agriculture
- Highly motivated individuals with strong organizational skills
- Ability to adapt and willing to learn in various situations
- Intuitive, self-motivated and hard working with lots of patience
- Ability to frequently lift 25-50 pounds
- Ability to walk and stand continuously throughout the day with frequent bending and stooping
- Work in variable climate conditions
