CNC Operator

Job Summary

A CNC Operator at MacDon Industries will set-up and operate automated machining equipment to produce components. They work from sketches, prints, operating method sheets (OMS), preliminary drawings, and written/verbal instructions, while maintaining specifications.  

 Responsibility

• To operate CNC equipment such as Lathes, Mills, etc.
• Follow safe work procedures with proper PPE.
• Able to perform own set-up.
• Support and maintain department lean initiatives and workplace organization requirements.
• Ability to recognize problems when machining materials and correct issues as they arise.
• Control the proper feeds and speed of different material and tools to maximize the quality and productivity of the work center.
• Perform equipment total productive maintenance (TPM) at the operator level.
• Assist other team members with technical issues and/or production concerns.
• Understand and work from drawings, specifications, operating method sheets, written and verbal instructions.
• Responsible for quality, assured by frequent inspections of one's work.
• Maintain a clean work area using 5S methodology.

Academic/Educational Requirements

• Secondary school (high school diploma or equivalent).

Required Skills/Experience

• Previous CNC equipment experience or knowledge of is an asset.
• Experience using computer systems.
• Successful completion of all MacDon pre-screening assessments.
• Familiar with tools used in performing of CNC duties including Micrometers, Calipers, and Rulers.
• Clear communication skills (written and verbal).
• Must be able to understand and work from technical drawings/blueprints.
• Demonstrated ability to perform the following physical requirements:
• Physically able to lift up to 47 pounds. Refer to the MacDon Safety Manual.
• Physically able to twist and bend frequently.
• Physically able to walk and/or stand for 8 hours.
• Maintain a good attendance record and comply with company rules and regulations.
• Work in a safe and responsible manner.
• Perform repetitive tasks following a prescribed routine.
