Our neighbors can't believe that we can run 40 foot (12.2 m) headers in our hills.– Henry Rumpf, Battleford, SK
We used to run four swathers – two 25 foot (7.6 m) and two 30 foot (9.1 m) – and now we are doing the same amount of acres with these two 40 foot (12.2 m) headers and doing it faster. We’ve never had anything like them… lots of power. We were really impressed with how quiet and comfortable they were to run. Our neighbours can’t believe that we can run 40 feet (12.2 m) in our hills, and do the job that we are. In a heavy 50 bushel wheat crop, and challenging downed canola crop, we ran them the whole season, cutting 8,000 acres (3,237 hectares) without stopping for anything. For new tractor units and headers to run all of them acres and with nothing going wrong, well that’s pretty good. Some guys around here had all kinds of problems with their swathers last fall; they couldn’t get it cut or get the canvasses to drive properly. The competetive ones were giving lots of problems. There was even one guy who had to get it custom cut because he couldn’t get it done. Well, now he’s got two MacDon D60’s himself.”

In the fall of 2009 we received almost two feet of snow, which downed everything we had left to harvest including 600 acres (242.8 hectares) of oats which were flat to the ground just like peas. The fact that we were able to harvest them was entirely due to our FD Series and their ability to shave the ground in wet, muddy conditions. It was incredible to see - those FD Series were picking up oats that were taller behind the combine than they were in front. In the end we got 115 bushels to the acre and they graded number-two. For us to get marketable grain after conditions like that, well that's simply amazing. We had neighbors shaking their heads wondering how we did it. They would drive by slowly and say they could not believe that we got that crop off.

My M150 R80 Rotary Disc Windrower is so much better than the auger we were using before. Before when we tried to cut wet Timothy hay with molehills, we would stop and get out to unplug sometimes every 10 minutes. But with the M150 R80 you don’t even know that the hills are there. They might pull the engine down 100 RPMs but you wouldn’t even notice that if you weren’t watching. Our down time in the field is now basically none. Another improvement is in our field speed. With the old auger in that crop we would be lucky to be doing 3.5 MPH (5.6 km/h), but with the R80 we are able to average 6 to 7 MPH (10-12 km/h). I’ve even had it as high as 10 MPH (16 km/h), and it still cut perfectly and laid just as good a swath, but I just don’t like going that fast. I really like the swath it lays, especially if you lay it out wide, then it lays just an absolutely beautiful, even, perfect windrow.

The double windrow attachment has been great on our 16' (4.9 m) MacDon R80 rotary disc machines. With them we can now lay 32 feet (9.8 m) of conditioned crop in a single windrow. Instead of needing three swathers on a crew, as we did in the past, we can now put two machines on a crew and still stay ahead of two - sometimes three - choppers. As such, we've been able to dramatically increase the number of acres we are able to cut. That increased capacity has allowed our custom cutting business to pick up more work.
All M Series Windrowers have received a significant horsepower boost thanks to the addition of Cummins engines across the board. At the top of the scale is the M205, which takes on all challenges thanks to its high powered Cummins turbo diesel engine (220 HP/164 kW at a rated 2,200 RPMs) that can automatically power boost to 230 HP (170 kW) when in extreme conditions. Powerful enough to run draper headers up to 40' (12.2 m), this tier 3 engine is fuel efficient and environment friendly. Equipped with Intermediate Speed Control (ISC) all header functions operate at full power with reduced engine RPM for increased fuel savings. To ensure that every ounce of power being generated is effectively delivered to the header drive motor, the M205 Windrowers feature a completely new header drive with a load-sensing circuit. MacDon’s Hydraulic Header Reverser (optional for M205 and M155 windrowers) allows the operator to quickly unplug the conditioner and other major header components on augers and drapers without leaving the operator’s station.
All regular engine and hydraulic maintenance points are within easy reach thanks to MacDon’s patented movable rail platform. The cooling system’s cores are easily slid or swung out for fast cleaning.
To accommodate the larger engine, the M205 and M155 feature a completely redesigned air intake and exhaust system which has resulted in a reworking of the windrower’s body and hood to allow for greater airflow into the engine. To keep up, the air filter has also been enlarged which has provided the added bonus of longer periods between service intervals.
The sliding platform can be moved back to front to allow access to a number of service points including fuel fill, engine air filter, engine service points and access to cab doors. Additionally, the platform can be moved rearward to allow service of electrical and hydraulic components on the windrower.
The new larger toolbox is attached to the sliding platform to ensure that tools and replacement components are available when required.
Additional HID lighting is now available for those who are looking to intensify their current M Series lighting package. This kit features two self-contained HID lights, ballasts and all of the required wiring on your M Series machine. The light is a very bright white, almost blue in color.
Adjust header and guard angles on the go from the cab, enabling you to get the knife and guards closer to the ground for recovery of downed crops and improved performance in crops such as peas, lentils, edible beans and soybeans.
