TRANSCRIPT:

Hi, my name is Quinn. I'm the product support specialist of MacDon corn headers. And today we are going to go through snapping roll knife gap adjustment.

Snapping roll knife gap adjustment is something we should be checking setting and adjusting depending on crop condition to ensure all rows of the corn header feed evenly and smoothly. Poor snapping roll knife gap adjustment could lead to poor feeding or excessive trash being brought into the header. Tool list is an 1 1/4 inch or 32 mm wrench, a pry bar, 17 mm socket, and a feeler gauge capable of sitting about 1 to 2 mm. and a torque wrench with a 17 mm socket. First step, we want to make sure that our sharp snapping roll knives are aligned with each other. To do that, we'll use our 1 1/4 inch or 32 mm wrench.

Run the gauge in between our snapping roll knives. If the gap is larger than 2 mm, adjustment should be made. And if the gap is less than 1 mm, adjustment should be made. If the knives are touching, there is potential for damage to the machine. If adjustment is required, we're going to loosen off our four 17 mm bolts.

The snapping rolls can be moved easily by hand and or by pry bar. Run the gauge in between your knives and then tighten your 17 mm bolts and nut. Ensure that the rolls remain centered in the row unit or poor feeding uh could be a consequence. Once we are happy with our adjustment, take your torque wrench and torque to spec.

Now repeat this procedure on all snapping rolls. It's important that all gaps be the same or within 1 mm of each other. Then rotate the drive shaft by hand 360° to ensure the snapping rolls are not contacting each other or the vine knives. Snapping roll knife gap adjustments must be completed on every row unit of our C series and FC series corn headers to ensure optimal feeding and reliability.
