Technical Training & Development Specialist

Job Summary

This role is responsible for designing, developing, and delivering practical, hands-on training programs that build employee skills, improve safety and efficiency, and support the production of high-quality equipment. Ensures training is practical, clear, and easy to understand, enabling employees to confidently apply their skills on the shop floor.

 

Responsibility

The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities for this position:

  • Supports operations by identifying training needs and helping close skill gaps across areas such as assembly, welding, and other manufacturing functions
  • Key coordinator for technical training initiatives, able to facilitate training on the floor or in the classroom 
  • Works closely with operations leadership, quality, and product support teams to identify production challenges where training can improve performance
  • Assesses training and development needs through surveys, interviews, and focus groups
  • Sources trainers/programs to support training requirements providing recommendations for best options 
  • Leverages creative ways to help employees learn particularly in the manufacturing environment 
  • Develops unique training programs to address specific needs to maintain or improve job skills
  • Creates and/or acquires training procedure manuals, guides, and course materials
  • Presents training and development programs using various forms and formats including group discussion, lecture, simulations, videos in person, recorded and virtually
  • Assesses training materials prepared by instructors
  • Evaluates program effectiveness through assessments, surveys, and feedback
  • Performs other administrative duties as required 
  • Participates in HR initiatives and projects as required
  • Conducts policy and procedure training and writes QMS document drafts 
  • Maintains knowledge of the latest trends in training and development

     

Qualifications

Education and Experience

  • Previous experience working in a manufacturing role is an asset
  • Basic knowledge of hardware, blueprint reading and hand tools is an asset
  • Strong influential and building relationship with stakeholder’s skills
  • 1-2 years of training and development experience 
  • Proven ability to develop and successfully implement programs in a manufacturing environment

 

Skills and Knowledge

  • 2-3 years experience training in a manufacturing environment both on shop floor and classroom
  • Ability to work with all levels of the organization
  • Must have intermediate to advanced knowledge with MS Office, including Power Point & Word
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills to convey information to others effectively
  • Strong time-management skills and the ability to prioritize effectively
  • Confidentiality is essential
