Quality Engineer
PURPOSE and SCOPE
Reporting directly to the Quality Engineering Manager, Quality Engineer performs execution of Quality Engineering systems including; handling of nonconforming materials, Corrective/Preventive Actions, failure reporting, analysis and corrective action (FRACAS), field data collection and analysis and supplier quality assurance. This position provides quality engineering support to the product development cycle and timely execution of advanced product quality planning activities (FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP, etc.). Quality Engineer supports product manufacturing systems including; process/product validation and qualification.
PRIMARY JOB RESPONSIBILITIES
The following are the main job responsibilities and priorities for this position:
- Develop, implement and maintain quality engineering procedures and processes as required, to ensure that MacDon products conform to the specified performance, quality and regulatory requirements.
- Execution and control of the nonconformance handling system including; identification, segregation, containment, analysis, disposition and recurrence prevention of nonconforming materials to reduce manufacturing cost and foster quality and productivity improvement.
- Chairs the material review board (MRB) and ensures timely status updates and reporting.
- Execution and control of the corrective action system.
- Create, implement and control appropriate Quality Assurance data collection procedures to ensure that product, procedures and processes are in compliance with relevant quality, performance and regulatory requirements.
- Collect and analyze product and process performance matrices to ensure that the specified quality and reliability requirements are met. Recommend and execute improvement actions as necessary.
- Interface with the Engineering and Product Support groups to ensure that adequate and timely analysis as well as root cause identification and correction of escalated field issues are provided.
- Performance of Product and Process audits.
- As member of the supplier management team, together with Engineering, Manufacturing and Supply Chain, accountable for all Quality Assurance aspects of Supplier selection, qualification, approval and surveillance activities.
- Work with the Manufacturing organization to ensure process control and quality of workmanship.
- Work with Manufacturing Engineering to determine and implement mandatory inspection points (MIP) plan.
- Work with Manufacturing to ensure that an adequate system for identification and traceability of parts and materials used in deliverable products is implemented.
- Identify, analyze and monitor quality engineering key performance indicators (KPI).
- Provide necessary quality engineering support to the Receiving Audit program.
- Support the Configuration Management system.
- Actively participate, and represent Quality, in product development teams and perform APQP activities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Education and Experience
- B.Sc. in Engineering.
- Green or Black Belt in Six Sigma.
- Minimum 10 years of directly related experience in a design and manufacturing environment.
Skills and Knowledge
- Applied experience in statistics and statistical process control.
- Applied experience of advanced product quality planning (FMEA, MSA, SPC, PPAP, etc.).
- Knowledge of DFSS techniques such as IDDVO, DMAIC, DMADC, QFD, PUGH, TRIZ, etc. is a definite asset.
- Excellent computer skills with Microsoft Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and statistical software packages.
- Excellent communication skills both verbal and written.
- Some travel may be required.
